Shoemoney - Skills To Pay The Bills |
The Double Standard of the Google B Club Posted: 07 Jun 2012 06:00 AM PDT I swear a single day doesn't pass without certain SEO industry folks bitching and moaning about all things Google, whether it is the not provided keywords, being pandalized or new AdWords changes. But while some people think that these vocal Google haters must avoid anything Google like the plague, if you really know them, it's pretty clear that not only is Google entrenched in their work, but a good 80%+ income is directly from Google, the very same company they constantly complain is the evil of all. While it might not be all from the juicy Google check (but I can assure you, a decent chunk of them are running AdSense unless they have been banned), the rest is from affiliate money from traffic gained from Google via organic or Adwords, or consulting money which is based off of, you guessed it, all that Google knowledge and the ability to deliver Google traffic to said clients. Because let's be honest, clients aren't lining up because they only want to rank on Bing. Yet these people are among the loudest who get up on their soapbox with an almost comical frequency to complain about what sucks about Google. And we all know who they are But think about this: If they hate Google so much, why don't they robots.txt out Googlebot and cancel their AdSense accounts? Or stop buying AdWords and using their Google Analytics account? Not a single Google basher in the SEO industry has. So maybe they should. Or maybe their lives just suck enough that Google bashing is their only pleasure in life left. But will any of those people in the Google B Club ever stop using Google? The fact is, Google bitching is like a drug to certain people, and it is an attention getter and they are pretty much all attention whores. Everyone knows that if something happens related to Google and SEO that those certain people will unleash a twitter rant, or a bitchy blog post about it. To be fair, some Google changes suck for your average SEO. Seeing the "not provided" per cent climbing daily hurts webmasters and SEOs, as does the feeling that you at least need to keep your toes wet in the Google+ pool just in case it really does take off and you want to be able to brag about being in it from the start (seriously, some of these same people haven't stopped bragging about the age of their Twitter account). And even though they constantly partake in Matt Cutts bashing on Twitter or forums, and usually cc @mattcutts in their rants, they are also the very same people who also try and ensure they get at least one private conversation with him at conferences. And you can bet if they have a major ranking issue, they will have no qualms with pinging Matt privately about it, all while Google bashing in public. So next time you see someone bitching and moaning about something Google has done, tell them to just stop using Google and problem solved :) I can pretty much guarantee on a single person will take you up on that solution.
