The Fastest Way to Find Blogs that Want Your Guest Post

Posted: 29 Oct 2015 03:53 PM PDT

Every guest posting guide recommends searching Google for blogs that accept guest posts. This works, but is slow and most blogs don't have a specific "Submit your guest blogs here!" page. Other guides recommend looking at competitor’s backlinks to find posts, which is also slow and cluttered with many other links.

The key is to be extremely specific in your searches. Search by competitor, not a topic. This works great for B2B content marketing campaigns, where there may not be industry blogs to post on. For example, search for:

competitor "guest post" -site:competitor.com
[Name of competitor's director of marketing] "guest post" -site:competitor.com

For non-business terms, the same principle applies. Be specific:

topicwebsite.com "guest post" (posts that talk about sites similar to yours)
[Name of topic thought leader] "guest post"

Create 20-30 of these searches and you'll quickly put together a list of on-target websites that accept guest posts (it's how I found DailyBlogTips). And when applying, remember to these tips for making sure your guest post is accepted.

The goal of this technique isn't to find every place you could post, it's to be much more efficient in your search so you have more time for writing. Every result of these searches should be a blog interested in what you have to say. Happy searching!

Podcasts I listen to

Posted: 27 Oct 2015 09:36 AM PDT

I often get asked what podcasts/websites I read.

Well I don’t read websites on a regular basis. I used to back in the day but for the most part unless someone shares an article on Facebook I don’t. Facebook has basically replaced an RSS reader for me (does anyone use an RSS reader anymore?).

So here are the podcasts that I listen to.  There is only a couple business wise cause they are not updated daily.

Click on them to be taken to the iTunes subscription page.

Business related:

Problogger – Just great tips about blogging and monetizing your blog.

Digital Marketer Facebook Specific Marketing – Keith Krance is the go to guy for Facebook marketing for many big brands and internet marketers (Frank Kern, Ryan Diess, etc etc).  Great Content.

Personal Interests:

Joe Rogan – He does a LOT of podcasts and has a lot of interesting guests.  I just choose which ones to listen to based on the guest a lot but I have come to learn most of them are pretty good.  He focuses a lot on his career as a comedian and brings on a lot of verteran comics and some really famous ones as well as UFC fighters.  He is really all over the board.

I also listen to various podcasts when they are in season.  Big Brother,  Game Of Thrones,  Walking Dead, etc etc.

Also just a tip – If you don’t have a huge hard drive and want to archive them all then you can change settings to just keep the latest number on your drive.

Optimize Content Sharing On Social Media With WordPress Plugins - DailyBlogTips

Optimize Content Sharing On Social Media With WordPress Plugins

Posted: 26 Oct 2015 12:54 PM PDT

Whether you’re a business owner promoting your brand or an organization sharing information about an important social cause, it’s important to consistently get your message out there. These days, doing so is easier than ever thanks to the arrival of a social media plugin. Learn more about how this plugin can assist you in sharing content on social media and why doing so is important by reading the information found below:

The WordPress Social Media Plugin

One of the most recent and important developments in the WordPress plugin world is the arrival of the social media plugin. These plugins work by automatically publishing content from the user’s blog to their social media accounts. This can include Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Tumblr, LiveJournal, Flickr, Delicious, YouTube, Plurk, and Stumbleupon. The entire process is automated. You simply compose a new piece of blog content and the post with backlink will be posted to all of your designated social media networks. Setting up facebook page is quite simple and using the plugin is also easy thanks to instructional web articles and blog posts that explain how to use your Facebook setup to enable auto posting on facebook page. (You can search the internet for instructional posts on how to use the plugin with other social media channels as well.)

Why Should You Share Your Blog Content On Social Media?

If you’re considering whether to download a WordPress plugin in order to share your blog content on social media, you should consider the benefits that can result from doing so. Some of them include:

1. Increased Virability.

As many marketing mavens know, sharing your blog content on social media channels is a wonderful way to increase the virability of the content. “Virability” is a term that references the potential of your content to be shared with numerous people in a specific social network. These individuals will then share the content with everyone in their social network, and the process replicates itself such that thousands and potentially millions of people see your content within a matter of minutes. When you use the WordPress plugin, you make this process possible.

2. Improved Brand Familiarity.

Another great benefit of the WordPress plugin is its ability to help build your company’s brand familiarity. When you use the auto share feature to post your blog content on social media channels like Facebook and Twitter, the individuals who view the post are going to become increasingly familiar with the products and services you sell. Once this process is put in motion, you increase the likelihood of turning a prospective customer into a loyal client.

3. Quick Updating Capabilities.

One final benefit of the WordPress plugin is the ability to provide the public with quick updates. The auto share feature is immediate, meaning that your post is published via social media channels in the blink of an eye. This makes it easy for you to quickly publish important information about your business, such as the arrival of a new product or an upcoming sale, contest, newsletter, etc.

Summing It All Up

If you’re interested in taking your business to a new level of success, you should know that the use of WordPress social media plugins can assist you. By reviewing the short guide offered above, you can decide whether this marketing outlet would be appropriate and advantageous for your company. Good luck!

Movie Trailers and Product Launches Similarities

Posted: 23 Oct 2015 07:58 AM PDT

I thought about this the other day… I never watch movie trailers because they basically give away the best parts of the movie. Then when you watch the movie you wait for the parts that they show… Or when the hero looks like he is about to die you know he isn’t cause what you saw in the trailer hasn’t happen yet.

Anyway my point is that the trailer gives you all the core content of the movie.

Made me think about landers giving away free guides and launches giving away content leading to the launch.

Often times during a product launch, especially when its leading up to a 3-5 thousand dollar product, the content they give away during the launch is more valuable and condensed than the actual product.

Im not pushing any particular product here but don’t dismiss a launch. Download the content. Save for day when you need it.

Tips for Startups: How to Build an Ad Inventory

Posted: 22 Oct 2015 03:27 PM PDT

In order for websites to stay afloat in the vast sea that is the World Wide Web, they have to generate a good amount of traffic. The word "traffic" here, at least in
the terms of site building, can be easily envisioned as the sum of the accumulated number of visits they receive from their audience, plus the time one spends on their website.

Now, pages like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and other popular social media channels face very little difficulty when it comes to producing traffic. This is because,
besides being able to attract a large portion of the internet community, there are various things one can do on their websites – keeping them busy for a good amount
of time. For other sites that do not dabble in this kind of form however, getting people to visit their pages is easier said than done.

Yes, it is true that there is an audience for every site that exists in the Internet; however, companies cannot exclude the fact that the attention span of an average human being is quite short. So, in order to keep the people interested in these types of websites, placing advertisement in strategic places in some pages is one way to do it. However, one must remember that the process of placing ads is not that simple, so before you begin opening your site to potential ads, you have to establish a strong ad network and an ad inventory first.

The Importance of Having an Ad Network
If you are having a hard time gathering an audience to visit your startup website, then you should consider building and working with an ad network. What is that, you
might ask? Ad networks are online businesses that work as brokers for both the suppliers (which are you and your site) and the buyers (the potential advertisers),
and act like matchmakers when it comes to looking for appropriate ads for the client site. They enable you to attract the right people to your site because pages will
have ads that will feature services, items, and offers that are similar to what your company selling.

Some notable ad network companies you can work with are:

•Inmobi (mobile)
•Admob (mobile)
•Google AdSense (web)
•Yahoo Right Media (web)

With an ad network by your side, it will be easier to reel in your targeted audience, and keep them browsing through your content for long periods of time.

What is an Ad Inventory?
Now that you have the means to receive ads, you need to place it somewhere in your site – this is when advertising inventory steps in. An ad inventory refers to the
quantity of space available on your site which could be bought by potential advertisers. It is usually quantifiable by the number of impressions your websites get per month. Its value is calculated by the amount of traffic your site receives, as well as other factors that might be important to the display advertiser.

Tips on Building your Ad Inventory
The great thing about ad inventory is that you, the host publisher, will be able to pick out the best ads that will make your website stand out. However, with all
this creative freedom in your hands, you must remember that even though there are a lot of beautiful advertisements made available, you need to choose the perfect one
that will not only make increase the frequency of site visits, but also, connects with your specific audience.

Know Your Brand
Your company is powered by the services and/or offers you provide your clients, and choosing ads that have the similar vision, tone, and professional outlook, your
audience will know that you mean business.

Know Your Audience
Although choosing ads that correctly represents your company is good, you still have to think about the other half of this equation – your audience. You have to keep
in mind that in order for people to keep visiting your site, you need to change your advertisements from time-to-time. Take note of the ever shifting wants and needs
of your audience, because sometimes you will be presented with amazing ads at your disposal but they will not fit with the demands of your audience.

Learn to Balance
There will be ads that are five words long, while others present in full sentences. Depending on how much space you have to offer, you may play around with different
types of ads. Switching your ads regularly is a sign that you are responding very well with your audience, and that your site is still in its online status.

Don't Go Overboard
It is tempting to place a lot of ads to please numerous types of people, but having too much going on your site never looks good. It creates pages that are messy,
difficult to navigate, and makes your company look childish and unprofessional – giving your audience more reasons not to click your site.

By maintaining your advertisement inventory, you will be able to create the proper traffic your site desperately needs. Always remember that, the more optimized your site is, the better.

So before you begin publishing advertisements in your websites, familiarize yourselves with these simple tips, and you will see your brand gain attention, one click at a time.

2 Traffic Sources I Recently Discovered

Posted: 13 Oct 2015 07:19 AM PDT

The ShoeMoney Network is growing at a rapid pace, and we have several great affiliates through various networks (all major networks have it, ask your affiliate manager). We do of course have our own affiliate network but I would rather you go through others as I don’t have time to police affiliates.

I do still buy a significant amount of our own media though. Couple things I have found that work and some that just don’t work that I wanted to share that before I was not familiar with.

First off banner traffic for the ShoeMoney Network doesn’t work. I have tried numerous networks and its just not yielding results.

Here are ones that are working… and that I have never used before.

PTC (Paid To Click) sites:

These are sites where a user is paid to click on an and and watch it for a time period. Prices depend on how much you make the user stay on your site. Sounds like junk traffic eh ? Well for me its working very well. I never would have guessed. Some example sites are Neobux, and Traffic monsoon.

Traffic is dirt cheap… and I mean super cheap. Like half a million clicks for a couple hundred bucks.

Only issue is the volume of traffic just isn’t there.  Like literally I can’t spend 1k in 2 weeks.  I even offered to the network owner that I would pay 2x as much for more traffic but got an odd response.  Maybe english isn’t there first language not sure.

Tips for PTC:

Don’t set a huge budget and let it run.  It will do a lot of traffic the first day then quickly trail off.  This is because when the users goto click on ads they are shown on a board and they are in order of when they were purchased.  So you want to try to figure out about how many clicks you get a day and then add it daily or a couple times a week.

As I said above the pricing is based on the amount of time the user has to view your page.  You can require the user to look at your site anywhere from 3 seconds to 60 seconds.  Tiers pretty much double in pricing.

ptc

Even though the standard is 4x as much as the micro and 2x as much as the mini that is where I see the biggest ROI.

Another great source of traffic I have found is SoloAds:

I had heard of SoloAds but never knew what they were.  I thought it was some sort of advertising network.

SoloAds are email traffic.  But not bulk email.  It what they call “warm” traffic meaning the list owner has a relationship with their lists.  They are all double opted in and SoloAd providers and as I said they are familiar with the list owner.  Think of it kind of like John Chow’s auto responder when you join his list…  He emails a lot of offers.  I would say mine to except I rarely promote anything and when I do I usually tell a story around it more than actually trying to sell the product.

The interesting thing about SoloAds is they are not geared to sales.  They are geared for people to build their own lists which then they can sell Soloads to.  Odd I know.  But thats how it works.  I have found certain sources of this traffic very well.  There is a Facebook group called “SoloAds Testimonials” which does a good job in that people post results they got from buying SoloAds.

The downside is that SoloAds are incestuist.  Because SoloAd sellers buy from other SoloAd sellers many of them have the same exact people on their lists.

SoloAd traffic runs anywhere from 50 cents to 90 cents per click depending on the seller.  Higher price does not always mean higher quality.  I deal direct with the best and most respected solo ad sellers and I have never paid more than 65 cents per click.

Doesn’t mean they have all worked…  The worst I came out was -20% ROI but all together I am about 65% ROI on the SoloAd buys as a whole.

Bad news is its not really scaleable.  The SoloAd sellers I have bought from I can usually only buy about 4-6 thousand dollars worth before they are out of clicks.  Then sometimes they will intro me to others but again its very incestuist and you see ROI go down the more you buy from others (I have anyway).

For more on SoloAds you should listen

1. to this podcast
where my guest was Andrea Fulton.

For me the only real source of traffic that is scaleable is Facebook and PPC engines.  While they might not have the ROI that these other sources do its a source of traffic that can truly scale infinitely.

I Fried My iPhone 6 Plus (Be Careful of 3rd Party Cables)

Posted: 12 Oct 2015 06:00 AM PDT

A couple weeks ago I was starting a trip for Denver.  As always I got to the airport very early to get some work done before the flight.

I took out my laptop and went to plug in my phone.  Damnit I forgot my charging cable.

Luckily (I thought), they sold them in the airport gift shop.  And damn only $5.  Sweet.

So I plugged my phone to my computer via this cable and all worked fine.

During the flight I plugged it into my portable battery and noticed it just held its charge but didn’t go up.  Ok whatever.

I got to my hotel late,  plugged in my iPhone, and crashed.

I woke up at 6am to an unmistakeable smell of electrical components burning.  I looked at the floor where my iPhone was charging and it was smoking.  I unplugged the cable and ripped it out of my phone.  The cable was completely melted and the bottom of my iPhone was black and super hot.  Smell was horrible.

Weird thing,  despite all this, the phone still worked.  Maybe there was hope.  So I used a friend’s Apple iPhone cable but the phone didn’t even acknowledge there was one plugged in…  Great.

So I hit the Apple store in the Cherry Creek Mall with my fried iPhone.  Apple dude took one look at it and said, “Ok well not the first one I have seen let me grab you a new phone”.  And that was it.

I restored and all was well.

Bottom line.  Although Apple’s stuff is crazy overpriced, be careful.

Thank god the 6 plus wasn’t even a year old so their was no warranty issues.

Blogging and Impostor Syndrome - DailyBlogTips

Blogging and Impostor Syndrome - DailyBlogTips

Blogging and Impostor Syndrome

Posted: 06 Oct 2015 11:21 AM PDT

You don’t know what you’re doing. Everyone thinks you’re something you’re not. One day soon you’ll be found out to be lacking the skills, experience and intelligence that people believe you have.

Sound familiar?

As a blogger you have most probably experienced impostor syndrome at some point along the way. If you’re like me then it remains an ever present voice.

It’s a completely natural, especially for those of us who create online content. We build a perception of other people (their entitlement to the space through their natural abilities), and compare them with our own more chaotic and messy situation (I’m making it up as I go).

Perhaps you look at what others are doing and feel like they’ve got it sussed, and that you’re just pretending to look like you know what you’re doing.

Well what if you knew that every single blogger has felt like that? What if you were to discover that even the most successful ones still experience it?

Impostor syndrome wants us to believe that we’re second rate.

It wants us to shun good opportunities because we feel undeserving.

It wants us to distract ourselves by stressing and over-preparing for small things.

It wants us to settle for comfortable; what’s easy rather than what’s worth it.

It’s the part of us that wants to make us feel isolated and separated so that we become afraid of doing anything remarkable that might change the status quo.

And it is amplified ten-fold in the online world. I want you to realise that if you feel this way then there’s no need to panic. You’re not alone. It’s normal and natural.

For those of us in the weird and wonderful world of virtual community; connecting from behind a computer screen, impostor syndrome is something for which we must be on the lookout. It’s the same for almost everyone doing creative work.

As Steve Furtick said, we need to “stop comparing our backstage with other peoples’ highlight reel’.

The next time you feel that nagging pull of impostor syndrome doing all it can to bring you to self-sabotage, remember:

– You Don't Have to Pretend

My favourite blogs are journeys from amateur to expert. They are relatable and honest.

On the other hand the bloggers that inspire me to quickly bounce off their site are usually written with faux-authority and a pretence of expertise. It’s obvious when someone is pretending. Real impostors are not difficult to spot, especially online.

No one needs to fake it till they make it when it comes to creating content. Every blogger I know who have developed huge followings have done so by being honest about what they don’t know and what they’re afraid of. Your potential audience wants to come on a journey of discovery with you. They learn as you learn.

– Perception is Not Reality

We all encounter familiar strangers in life; people we see all the time but never talk to.

If you’re like me then you create a story, a personality, maybe even ascribing a name. There is no way for this to be true. It’s all in our head, a way to make sense of the world, but that doesn’t stop you from believing in it on some level.

The same is true for our online encounters. We fill in the gaps, creating perceptions and stories about those people we see online and usually do so in a way that makes them different to us.

Unless you know these stories to be true then assume them to be false. Reach out to those familiar strangers online. Allow them to become human and relatable. The more we encounter one another the more vulnerability is given space to flow, and through vulnerability we find validation and encouragement.

– Criticism is Not Truth

When experiencing impostor syndrome you may be more sensitive to the impact of criticism. If you’re like me then self-sabotage occurs when you believe everyone is more expert and experienced than you.

Criticism doesn’t get run through the appropriate filter, i.e. is that helpful to my overall aim or is it just a subjective preference on the part of the critic?

It can completely derail us. When someone suggests that they would prefer it if you did something in a different way the default thought from impostor syndrome is, ‘OMG they’re right, I’ve been stupid, I need to change everything right now!’

This can lead to a chronic lack of focus as you become like a leaf being blown about in the wind.

Use criticism if it’s helpful but always sit on it before acting. Give yourself permission to listen without any obligation to act. If there are channels of unhelpful/destructive criticism shut them down or simply disengage from them. Only allow what helps.

– You’ve Come A Long Way Already

As humans we are experts at adapting to circumstances. It’s how we’ve evolved to live almost anywhere in the world. But this can also have an unfortunate impact on our relationship with ourselves.

It’s easy to forget how far we’ve already come. We brush things off as easy once we get used to them. One we know things we forget that before we knew them we didn’t know them; our default mindset is that everyone else must already know and that we are late to the party.

Remember that you’ve already come so far.

I am a big advocate of journalling for the sole reason of being able to look back and realise how little I knew last month, this time last year, or even five years back. It’s too easy to forget and to normalise your expertise and experience.

If you worry that you’re an impostor then you’re not one. The world needs you to speak to it, to share your story and blog your experiences, especially your anxieties and struggles along the way.

In The War of Art Steven Pressfield wrote: “The counterfeit innovator is wildly self-confident. The real one is scared to death.”

This sums up perfectly the struggle of those of us in creative industries and those of us building platforms in the online sphere.

If you’re scared to death as you share your ideas with the world then you can be sure you’re on the right track. A true impostor has very few doubts about himself.

Its a Blog, Jackass

Posted: 01 Oct 2015 07:12 AM PDT

As I wrote about a few weeks ago in a post called “I’m back bitches”,  I talked about where I started to change focus of the blog and get away from my roots.

I think people have forgotten what a blog is, or at least how it started.

This started,  and what I have gotten back to,  is my thoughts and if you will,  a log or mind dump.

While I have gotten a lot of accolades and thanks from people who have found value in their business endeavors, its really just a side effect of me sharing my experiences and dumping thoughts on items.

Recently on one of my posts I got this as a comment:

Never Failed Easy Money With the iPhone 6s Release On Friday! - ShoeMoney-1

Yup I talk like I am in a bar with a bunch of guys cause this is how I would talk in the bar with a bunch of lines.

I am not a “news site” and if that is what your looking for then I suggest subscribing to searchengineland or the SEM Post.  Those are great sources for actual industry news and have real journalists.

Back in the day when I used to write opinionated articles I would routinely get comments like this saying something to the effect of “you offended me I am never coming back”.  Yet the blog would grow in readership month after month.
