[Book Review] Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World, by Michael Hyatt Posted: 17 Mar 2014 06:24 AM PDT I first came across Michael at BlogWorld (now New Media Expo), where he was speaking about the principles in Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World. He's a very engaging, informative speaker, and the former CEO of Thomas Nelson. His blog, Michael Hyatt, covers business and leadership and has almost 400,000 readers. Platform is a beginner-friendly introduction to building an online platform – which doesn't just mean creating a blog (though that's a big part of it). Michael’s advice is divided into five sections on creating a compelling product packed with "wow", launching it to the world, building an online "home base", growing with blogging and social media and engaging with your readers and customers. Along the way, he includes plenty of inspiring examples. While some of these are big businesses, almost everything he writes applies just as much to individual entrepreneurs and bloggers. As Michael explains, if you have a product to sell, a book to promote or simply a message to share, you need an online platform that allows you to reach people. Platform is based on a number of Michael's blog posts, so it's formatted in short, stand-alone chapters – meaning you can easily dip in and tackle one section at a time. There's a handy list of resources at the end of the book, detailing tools that Michael himself uses. You can get it from Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk and many other online and offline retailers. If you have yet to start your blog, or you've only been blogging for a few months, I highly recommend Platform.
