Bones: A New Starter Theme for WordPress Posted: 27 Nov 2012 06:02 AM PST If you are planning to develop a new WordPress for your website or to start working with WordPress development for clients I recommend that you take a look at a new project called Bones. The project creators call it a “starter theme”. It’s basically a foundation theme that you can modify and build upon. The difference from WordPress frameworks is that those are usually bloated with features and that you need to work under specific constraints, but with Bones you only have the bare minimum and you are allowed to change/create things as needed. Another important aspect is that the theme is mobile-ready. It already comes with a responsive design/CSS structure that will adapt itself to any device and screen resolution. To seal the deal the project is free and open source under the WTFPL license (the actual license is pretty funny, check it out), which means you can do pretty much whatever you want with it. The guys from Tuts+ also have a tutorial explaining how you can get started with the Bones theme. Even if you are not going to use the theme immediately keep an eye on the project, as I suspect it might grow into something quite useful and popular within the WordPress community.
